Face of water as Slovenia, the source of Sveti Peter

Presentation :
Sveti Peter is a village of 400 inhabitants to 220 meters of altitude, with a few km of the Slovenien coast (42 km length).

Nadja and its family live the village of Sveti Peter since always. It lives there with her 18 year old son and his parents in a house close to the source.

The source of Sveti Peter is made up :
- of a tank which makes it possible to have a constant flow with each use. This tank was built at last century by the Austrians under the empire austro-Hungarian.
- of a feeding trough
- of a laundrette.
These two last are fed by the too full one with the source via a drain which crosses the road. They thus allow an optimal use of spring water.

Why are we still use this water ?:
The village of Sveti Peter has been equipped with distribution system of water for 20 years.
Although this water is drinkable, Nadja decided that it preferred to come to rather seek with the source the 10 liters of water which are necessary for him for the food, than drinking a water which it finds bad.
But less and less villager make in the same way. Indeed, the village is rather long and sloping, the inhabitants do not have thus any more courage to come to the source. Some come nevertheless by car from the village or close villages to fill of the bottles to have a water of quality less expensive than to the supermarket.
Today the feeding trough and the laundrette always contain the too full of one spring water but this water is used by the close relations neighbor to sprinkle their plants and their gardens.

Traditions :
There are no traditions as for the hour of the water drudgery, one goes there as soon as one can, where necessary, or if there are an appointment with the source. On the other hand we never heard speak, nivu men with this corvée.Par against it is even of notoriety that the unmarried boys of Sveti Peter were coveted for the source of their village and especially the laundrette (little village had which it and the detergents were to then be done in small vats in the houses).

For the transport of water there existed before the buckets and the bottles out of plastic, of the zinc vats from 15 to 20 Liters. With a slightly concave bottom, they went on the head.
In this manner tells us a song, the girls liked to come to the source to meet their lover there.
Four songs are attached to this source. And for our pleasure Nadja will sing them to us with an old woman come to seek water.
The songs are in Italian, French or Slovenien dialect. One of it tells the history of a young woman who asks to her mother if it can go to seek water with the source where it will meet beautiful young man who awaits it (to listen to this song cilquer on the photograph).
It is interesting to note this strong implication between water and the love and even water and the marriage.

Conservation of the source :
Analyzed every year by the National Institute of Biology of Ljubljana, water is supervised at the bacteriological level. His potability thus is determined. Because this source is the last of the not to be polluted area.
Even the deepest wells (there is much well in the village) were polluted by the discharge of worn water. And in spite of the existence of a sewerage system for several years, this problem has persisted.
There is thus a real will of the commune of preserve this inheritance cultural and social and a project of restorations of the tank is being studied.
